Colorado Springs

The campground we made reservations for at Colorado Springs is a little creepy, a lot of homeless hang around, and it is pretty run down. When we arrive we are however greeted by a fellow camper, who assures us it is safe, and they have been staying there without issues. So do we. The Garden of the Gods is really close by, we visit twice. The sun makes it pretty agreeable weather.

Pikes Peak is the highest summit of the southern Front Range of the Rocky Mountains, and a cog train runs to the summit. We get tickets and are amazed that the train is so full on a weekday. It is apparently the thing to do here, as our fellow travelers have booked their seats way in advance. The jokes of the tour guide are extremely corny, and we joke that if one of the things she has for sale were earplugs, we’d buy them.

We see a marmot from the train in the tundra level of the ride. At the top the wind is strong and icy, so we don’t mind we have only half an hour to explore. The views are great and we get some nice pictures of the cog train and the summit sign.
